Plastic clip broken in runner
Plastic clip broken in runner
So I’m just looking for some advice on how to get
these out. The small plastic pieces that hold the plenum gasket in place. Well on one side
they are broke inside the runners. And it’s a been a big pain getting the gaskets to stay in place as I try to put the plenum back on.

Use a pick or awl to remove the broken off piece.

Possibly hit it with a blast of air at just the side of the hole. Might eject them right out.
Wish mine held in that well to begin with.

Is there a trick in getting these gaskets to stay in place? Every time I tried to put the plenum on they would move. Ended up ruining the gaskets trying to put the bolts in. Now I have to pick up new ones.

RTV sucks, It gets everywhere. People say antiseize gets everywhere, but I say it's RTV.
I use a dabbing motion instead of a spreading motion to apply it to the gasket lightly. Let it setup and then put it on the surface

Yeah, dabbing. You want to apply sparingly, it will make the gasket permanent and difficult to remove later if you put too much, heh, ask me how I know

Should the injectors just pop right in.
I just put them in the manifold, and it seems they popped right in with no force. I did lube them before putting them in. But I thought for sure it would take some wiggling to get them in.

I've had many different sets of injectors over the years and they're all a little different. Some are tighter than others, but I never had a problem getting them in. A little dab of oil on the o-ring and they seat real nice.

Ok awesome, I bought the Bosch D3 from South Bay Injectors. Pretty excited to get these in. Hopefully by the weekend, I’ll have everything ready. Been working on it little by little. Since work gets in my way.

If you have idle problems when you are done, don't search for something you did wrong. The Bosch have a different voltage offset than the factory injectors. Shows up at idle on a lot of cars. Some report they "run fine". Just a heads up.
Re: Plastic clip broken in runner
Ok thanks, I’ll keep a look out for that. I remember I changed injectors on my LQ1 engine. And it idled like crap. But after a week of driving, it had idled pretty good.

You probably will need a tune if does not run right when you are done. I think the majority on here that used the Bosch 3's end up needing it to correct this voltage offset difference Kyle refers to. On my buddies car it affected more than just the idle.

Man I really hope I don’t have to mess around with all that. I was hoping for just plug n play. I’m already losing my patience with it.

From what I have heard/read the Delphis are plug and play...but they are also more than double the cost of the Bosch 3's.

Re: Plastic clip broken in runner
I’ve been considering those Delphi for my L98...but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
I may have to check into the Tuned Performance suggestion myself...I’m running a manual trans in my ‘88 L98, and while it seems to run well enough, I’m sure it would be much better having a MEMCAL that actually took advantage of the change.
