Course of action: Original fuel pump & injectors

1987 Z28, 305 LB9. For my winter project I'm thinking of changing the original (!!!) fuel pump and taking a look at the (again, original) injectors and regulator diaphragm. The car runs fine but the pump groans when initialized. The car has probably lost power over the years but it's hard to tell if it's done so progressively. I'm figuring I'm on borrowed time with these parts so it's time to take a good hard look. Should I go with a Walbro or ACDelco pump at this point? I know the latter is a crapshoot as to where it was made. Also, should I just have the original injectors cleaned and serviced? Thanks all!

I would definitely change out the injectors. The cost of replacements with the thirdgen discount is cheaper than having your injectors cleaned...besides they are very prone to coil failure

Re: Course of action: Original fuel pump & injectors

You'll likely get 100 opinions, and not that mine is any better than anyone elses, but here's my two cents. First, I've had good luck with Southbay injectors. Customer service and tech help is great, and there are plenty of affordable options. I'm hesitant to even mention injector voltage/offset differences but in my experience, with smaller injectors on smaller N/A motors, it just doesn't make a difference that you can ever feel behind the wheel or at the pump. Still....it's a real thing, and I'm sure someone will chime in with it so I wanted to mention it.

As for pumps, I'm a big fan of Racetronix and their hotwire kit. I think they use a Walbro pump, but they also include a wiring harness that supplies a constant power supply off the alternator which doesn't diminish as flow increases or other components draw power. It's a well made kit, plug and play, and easy to remove should you ever need to.

LOL...Southbay beat me to it.

I would second the hotwire kit from Racetronix, but maybe not their fuel pump necessarily.
I would definitely go with a genuine Walbro over a Delco unit since the aftermarket delco stuff isn't necessarily even Delco, but only in a Delco box.

I buy my Walbro from these people

All opinions are welcome and appreciated. So far I'm definitely leaning towards the hotwire kit. Any issues with the harness reaching the alternator on an '87 (non-serpentine belt)?

I doubt you'd have any issues with the harness. The non-serp isn't much different in terms of front to back. If anything I'd think it may be a hair long, depending on how you route the wiring.
