Fuel Pump/Fuel Injectors - idk wut to get....Stalling problems too
Hey folks, Im in the process of looking for a new Fuel Pump for my 90 Camaro RS w/a 2.8L v6 MFI about 25k on the motor. I am clueless as to what I should be aware of when looking for a fuel pump. Yea im a noob. Im planning on putting in new, bigger fuel injectors aswell later in a couple of months. Like I said, I'm clueless about this stuff so I really dont want to purchase a fuel pump and have it not be something good enough for whatever fuel injectors i do purchase and vice versa. Im looking for any and all input on what might be good combo's, etc. etc.
----------------
Now for the stalling out part. Im not totally sure if its the Fuel Pump and Injectors. They both have about 150k+ miles on them. With that being said I'm going to assume that is where my problem lies. Basically what happens is, when sitting in park, it will idle fine for a couple minutes then it will slowly but surely begin to run like crap and eventually stall out. It will start back up. Samething happens when sitting in drive. If I sit there holdin the brake and givin it some gas the car runs very rough. I do have a vaccuum line that I have ZERO idea where it goes to. I will take a picture of it tomorrow when there is daylight and maybe someone can recognize what it is.
Well, there it is folks, sorry for the long post, but I try to give as much info as possible.
for any and all help like usual.

thats a 255lph pump which is the largest intank pump i belive, and will support any mods u can do to the car including turbo or nitrous,if u ever have plans like that.
if ur gonna leave the car all stock then just buy a good quality replacement pump like an ac/delco pump.
also larger injectors wont give u any more power unless u have mods like headers/ported heads/inatke etc.
even if u do a adjustable fuel preasure regulator will work better then installing larger injectors.

Yea I had changed the Fuel Filter about a month or two ago.
We really need to drop the rear? omg
I installed those Pacesetter Headers.

YES, go look under your car and you'll see. The fuel pump is mounted on the top of the tank, right under the hump behind the rear seat and there's no access and don't suggest making one since these cars are unibody.

remove carprt on hump and use screw driver to start hole then use sheetmetal snips to cut hole over pump to access fuel pump. Cut fuel and return lines then jonin back with hose and clamps there is a post with pics do a search

Definately NOT RECOMMENDED!
If your replacing with a high quality pump (like you are), it's not worth cutting a 6"x10" chunk of your car away! If you're goint to use a junkyard pump and plan on replacing it again, fine. It will take you just as long to have an INFERIOR end result!
Don't take the "duck tape" approach.

Would you use a monkey wrench to change your sparkplugs?!?
Have you checked your lines lately, cause even that article tells you NOT to use hose and clamps, but rather compression fittings or flair fittings which either will not hold because the lines are not solid but a piece of steel that's rolled over and welded, and tend to crack over time.
How long do you think a hose and clamps are going to hold under pressures that are going to exceed 150gph? AND the pump you plan on using is a 225gph, right? All the more reason to be acceptable....
Tons of guys on here are running 15-15yr old pumps in their cars, this is something that you'll only (should if done correctly)have to do on your car once as long as you own it.
I'm going to be changing to a high vol pump soon, while I have the rear off the car, I'll go ahead and restore the rear cause we all know they rust easy!
Anyway, see for yourself...

Hmmm. Drop the rear? I'm looking to replace mine, but I didn't think that would be in the way. I thought just the exhaust was in the way. Guess I'll have to look at that again. If thats the case, I may just take mine somewhere and let somebody else mess with that headache.
Before you do anything, find someone with a fuel pressure guage to determine the problem.
