86 Trans am no start

we have a 86 Trans am. 305 TPI. It sat for 5yrs. Ran fine before it sat. We replaced fuel pump and sender, filter, injectors, blew out lines. Replaced Dist cap, rotor, plugs and wires. We started car and let it run for maybe 5 min. We shut it off toreplace starter as it was dragging. Now car spins over fine, but will not start. It has fuel at fuel rail. Noid light say injectors are fireing. Has fire at plugs. Rechecked wire at starter and all good. We have to get a preasure gauge to check fuel preasure. Any ideas? Car spins over great ,but no start.

Those applications use a 9th, cold start, fuel injector to help get extra fuel into the engine for cold starts because the ECM doesn't pulse the injectors long enough during cranking. I believe the power for the cold start injector comes from the starter relay as it works in start/crank position. So perhaps you missed a wire or one got disturbed when replaced the starter and it's no longer powering the 9th injector during cranking?

My experience has been my cars will still start without the cold start injector but its operation is dependent on temperature. I suppose if you're in a cold climate you may have a no start or an extended start.

Of course you do need to check fuel pressure with a gauge. You can have residual fuel in the rail but not enough to start the engine.
