87 GTA What MODs Did I forget?

I have searched on this forum a pretty good bit and after delay after delay over the years I am going to just do something. I am wanting my GTA on the road by June 1.

I have a 1987 GTA I have a rebuilt 88 LB9 that I am doing some modifications to and then installing. Just wondering if there is a MOD that I have missed that would benefit me any more with seat of the pants feel.

I plan to install AS&M runners, Accel intake (ported and gasket matched) and the plenum ported and gasket matched. I also have 3.73 gears, Dyno Don's headers and have a Comp Cam 08-501-8 that's been delayed twice now that I plan on installing. Will also have a chip burned to match up with these changes. The car has its original 700R4 transmission that was rebuilt about 8k miles ago.

Additionally, I have Eibach Pro Kit Springs, Koni struts and shocks, Hawks 17" GTA wheels, wonder bar, Alston inner subframe connectors, and Spohn outer subframe connectors.

Car is not dual exhaust at the moment. Would I gain anything using the Dyno Don's dual exhaust downpipes and making the car dual exhaust all the way to the mufflers?

I love what I have read about the 08-501-8 Comp Cam, however I want this car on the road by June 1. What other options do I have in a cam that will behave the same as that cam I want to install in my car? I'm starting to think Comp Cams is not going to come thru for me.

I cant remember what company I saw it with but they offered some sort of device that allowed you to switch between different chip tunings. It was a little box of sorts that had several chips attached. Has anyone seen what I'm talking about?

So what do yall think? What else can be done? Not going to race the car, no ¼ mile stuff, just mainly cruising and going thru the twisties in the Georgia Mountains.

I think the numbers on the cam are fairly similar to one of Lingenfelter's cams. It's been around longer, but it was always a popular cam. Maybe contact LPE and see if they have any in stock on a shelf if Comp can't get you that cam.

For the Cam, you could look at a custom grind from Camcraft Performance Cams out of Canton North Carolina. Hunter has pretty good turnaround times, but you will pay for the extra cost and quick turnaround.

For the tuning, you could look at something like the EBL Flash II for tuning if you want to go about it yourself. If not, it's going to be lots of back and forth working with a tuner and you, more than likely, will need to data log your drives anyway.

as for exhaust, I would stick with the Dyno Dons Y pipe for the time being. If you need more power, then you can venture down that road. However, I wouldn't recommend completely dual exhaust, as it can actually cost horsepower if not properly designed and executed. There is also the efficency cost compared to a proper X pipe or H pipe design. That doesn't even start the discussion on fitment and ground clearance for street driving.

Re: 87 GTA What MODs Did I forget?

So I talked to both Lingenfelter and Camcraft. Both are 5-6 weeks out after I place the order.

These are the cams and they are within $10 of each others price ($375 ish) plus shipping.

https:/www.lingenfelter.com/product/L210025087.html

Camcraft gave me the specs of
214/218 .500/.500 I think he said 112 LSA

Any other options? I like all three cams its just the having to wait 5-6 weeks sucks. I wanted that time to get the car settled in to drive in the Power Tour mid June.

Maybe for the heck of it give TPI Specialtes a call and see what they have in stock. They were another big TPI shop in the game and had some really good cams as well.

Re: 87 GTA What MODs Did I forget?

So these guys have one that may work but I think I will need to put 1.6 rockers on the intake side.

https://tpis.com/collections/cams/pr...28342563471432

It is in stock, according to their website there are 2 left. I'm tempted to just order it and cancel after I talk to them tomorrow of need be. Their office hours are 10am-2pm! That damn C19 has screwed everything up.

What do yall think of this cam?

ZZ9 was one of the cams that got them attention back in the day.

Wow, you are correct. That one is really close, just a little more aggressive like the ZZ9 camshaft is.

Re: 87 GTA What MODs Did I forget?

I guess Im gonna need to take the heads off and do head work since the ZZ9 cam has over .500 lift? I purchased these to go with the original cam I was going to get. Will any of these need to change?
