I made it offical. My 3rd Third is a Black Bird. TBI > TPI?

Third times a charm right?!? After my 89 took a crap, I almost was lost. With 0 down, 0 interst and 0 payment til 2003, I almost crossed the line and ended up in a Mitsubishi. That is until I drove one, at which point I realized I would not be happy behind the wheel of anything else but a rear-wheel drive AMERICAN car.

To make a long story short, the only car I looked at is what I got, 1990 Formula with only 37k miles on it for 4500. Considering I paid 5900 for my 89 six years ago with 42k, I think I came out ahead. Not to mention all the aftermarket parts that I can transfer over. The only thing is, it is one slow dog.

Anyway, what I need some decision making on is the injection. The 90 is TBI and my 89 has TPI. What is the best strategy for the swap.

Can I use the 90 TBI ECM and run a MAP set-up or would it be LESS WORK to just swap out the 89 ECM. If so, I really think that I'll wait to get DFI ecm for it.

Is the cam in the 90 TBI crap or is it the same as the 89 TPI. Again if the cam is inferior, I'll go for a new one when I do the swap.

That's it for now. Oh, you can imagine that I have lots for sale. Please check out my garage sale if you need anything cheap.
Garage Sale

Thanks,
Mike

Well, your gonna need the entire wirring harnes AND ECM... no way around that. As for your cam, while you have the intake off, why not just put a new cam inthere. The TBI cam is crap... dont bother with the stock TPI cam either.
Good luck!

Are the TPI and TBI totally different ECMs?

I was hoping that I could take the 1990 ECM and just get a painless wiring kit for TPI, burn a new chip and run MAP instead of MAF. Is this not a possiblilty??

I was hoping to hear more from you guys. THe TBI board almost has me convinced to stay with that. If so, add a complete TPI and Twin Fogger Nitrous plate to the garage sale.

The TBI boys like to run their mouth but they have very little evidence to back it up...... I read your post in the TBI and one guy said something like youd get 40 more Torque if you "slap" Edelbrock TBI manifold....... THEN WHY THE HELL DOESNT HE???? If you want my opinion, TBI is a busted @$$ system.... not to mention it is ugly as all get out.

to back up what he just siad, TBI is a electronic carburator, al yu TBi stop wining, h no, TPi is complicated, TPI this TPi that, Shut up oyu wanna be torque people, you coudl never be as good as a TPi car, you got crap cams and heads for a reson, so that popel would op for the more expensive faster engine. thats why the vetter got TPI and not TBI, your not much better than a six, just get off the board , TPI looks like a lil alien humping oyur engine that alone is cool, now eveyone sit back and wath the TBi guys go ape$hit over this and try and tear me down to redeem themselfs. laters ps I wipe my a$$ with a TBI, llong live TUNED PORT INJECTION!!!! and you need a tpi pump to run tpi, tbi pumps run at a lower psi than needed

lol
hopfully one day all , carb and TBi guys will open their hoods and they will find the awsome TPi setup alien humping thier engine, then they will find a smashed up TBi setup int he trash because the tpi fairy came and gave them torque, if oyu would like torque just leave your Trottle body under your car and in the moring you will find a tpi setup, the awsomse tpi fairy does this if you have been good.

I can not say as much bad things about TBI after seeing Andy Hehle's 89 RS at the west coast gathering a couple of years ago. I forget what he did but his throttle response was incredible. I just remember that he never had his valve covers off and it was a 5 speed. Mateo was out there too before he went 383. Andy kept was right next to us when we were tearin up the CA hiways.
