Consistent Knocking sound
I have a 1988 l98 350 installed in my 1991 z28. Engine was fully converted to speed density. It runs idles and revs just fine. This knocking sound worries me tho. Is it a rod main or possibly cam knock? It seems too consistent to be a rod to me but hey I’m the noob

Re: Consistent Knocking sound
Video really not long enough to get a good listen but could be any number of things.
some quick ideas
pull off accessory belt and see if its something there.
Check balancer and make sure outer ring isnt hitting timing cover.
was the pan dented anywhere?
Flexplate/tqconverter bolts loose?

Re: Consistent Knocking sound
Was this ever solved?
Is sounds like an air pump (AIRS) failure, but it just sounds like it from the video.
Sounds like a thump like air compressor.
2 cents worth

Re: Consistent Knocking sound
I had a knocking sound a few years ago on my TPI 350 swap. Heard it best at the front of the car at the grill. I used a mechanics stethoscope and narrowed it down to the AIR pump. I removed the pump and replaced it with a bypass pulley and the knock sound was gone.
I suggest you use a mechanics stethoscope to narrow down the sound.
Good Luck,
Fred
