305 TPI to 383 carb. Wiring and fuel delivery.
I’m new to the forum as a member and frankly not a computer or social media kinda person but I’m looking to do an engine swab on a car I’ve had since high school and I need some help. My dad raced Camaro’s in SCCA so I learned a bit and can turn a wrench but he has since passed and I need a new resource for help. Hope I can find it here.
Have a 1985 IROC- Z yellow not T-top 305 TPI with 52K miles. However when I renewed it one year the DMV lady add 100k miles for some reason. The odometer hasn’t been rolled over. I bumped up the front end 20 or so years ago but it was repaired well. Car is well not fast…. I put headers and deleted A/C and EGR (bad ideas) and put a chip in it when I was younger. It’s been sitting for 10 years I used to start it every year plate it and drive it a time or two. Anyway I had parts from my dad and had a 383 stroker built at a local shop guy drag races a 3rd gen and has a good reputation. Dyno at 499hp and 512 ft lbs I think. They took some timing out to make it more reasonable I was shooting for 500. They got close. Brodix heads and holly carb old one had rebuilt. So I’m nervous to start the swap because with a battery and some gas I can start it. I’m not electronically inclined and I’m nervous about the fuel delivery and don’t know where to start without pissing off an ancient computer in that thing and throwing all kinds of lights and not having the fuel pump run. What is the simplest way to get that done? Does someone may a kit with instructions? Should I do this? These 3rd gens are getting rarer and mine looks good. Don’t want to **** anyone off but they ride like a box of rocks though. I don’t think I will ever sell the car so I was thinking of just keeping the original motor. The transmission I was just going to buy a 700-r4 built to take that HP and a new rear end with disc brakes installed. I live close to Summit. Any help or thought I’m interested to hear.
