Axle/Gears: 3.23
OEM Spark Plug Wire Resistance
This may seem like a stupid question, but I'm looking to replace the spark plug wires in my '85 Iroc-Z with the 305TPI LB9 motor, and am wondering what the resistance of the replacement wires should be for the OEM HEI ignition system??? There are all kinds of performance wires out there, but if their resistance is too high it will only lower performance, rather than increase it...THX...Joe...

Just for reference, stock wires are sometimes between 9K to 18K

"Resistance is too high" is a relative term. Consider that a stock HEI system can easily produce 30,000V. Since the spark energy is mere milliamps, the EśR=I equation (thanks, Georg) would indicate that hundreds of KΩ would not stop a spark in a healthy system. Of course, some of that initial resistance is air gap across the plug itself, but the wire resistance is but a small fraction of that.
