I actually have that 1991 Car Craft magazine and always thought something was a little off with it. The AZ Speed TPI system made more HP than the FIRST (Electromotive) and the Super Ram. I know the AZSM base was extruded honed, but it still can't flow what the FIRST can out of the box. I was thinking it might have been that they didn't know how to tune with the Electromotive system. That's the only thing I can think of.
Here's one from a 1989 Car Craft. All these intakes did about what you would expect them to do.
Edit: The above was a stock Corvette L98 with Camaro manifolds and dual cat exhaust system.
I see intake runner lengths that are all over the map.
Anyone correlated that with HP and TQ RPM peaks?
1 5/8" headers. Good.
Edelbrock Performer RPM cam? Odd.
No mention of compression ratio.
That said, the engine base is the same through out so other than fueling maps, it's probably the best comparison of intakes seen to date.
The info on the test engine is lacking. We don't even know what size the thing is.

I thought the outcome was odd too. It was sort of the opposite of what I've seen so far in my own "Hot 80's Intakes!" tests. Not that any one test is the end-all, but the results of this one seemed weird to me, too.
