Please help with my code 43

1992 camaro 5.7. I’ve look all over the forums and internet. Did everything and still have the dreaded code 43, I don’t know if that directly connect to my car running rich but I’ve read that it can be the cause. I even ran a direct line from the ecm to the knock sensor. Still no luck.
what I replaced so far.
  • knock sensor
  • distributor
  • ignition coil
  • ignition control module
  • Spark plugs
  • spark plug wires
  • MAP sensor
  • coolant temperature sensor
  • Idle air control valve
  • Throttle position sensor
  • Fuel filter.
I threw everything I can think of involving ignition and spark. Can some please shed some light and answer my prays. Thank you.

Re: Please help with my code 43

From my experience it pulls timing off idle and more in the higher rpms. Code 43 is usually associated with a KS circuit. Knock sensors from '85 through '92 can physically look alike but the resistance can be different depending on the application. Take a ohms reading center of the sensor to the body of the sensor and it should be ~3.9 ohms. If it's 100k ohms, chances are you have the wrong KS. Been told KS are torque sensitive and over torquing them can damage them or make them oversensitive.

Oh ok. I never thought about that. I ordered me an oem KS and it’ll arrive tomorrow. I’ll check the readings on my new one before installing. The one I have on right now was a cheap generic brand off Amazon. Hopefully this was the cause all along. I’ll update have an update after my findings. Thanks.

Re: Please help with my code 43

Yeah. When I first got the car someone cut the wires to the KS and temp sensor, the wires were blue and white. I did some research and people said the blue wire was for the KS and the white one was for the TS. And I believe the KS plug had a blue wire on it. I replaced the old plug for it because I crushed the housing while trying to remove it. The aftermarket plug came with a white wire though. But I think I’m in the clear. Thanks 🙏🏽

Re: Please help with my code 43

UPDATE!
so today the oem KS came in. ACDelco part number 213-92. I ordered it from Amazon for about $55. Amazon says it doesn’t fit but it does, I checked by going online to GM parts store, AutoZone, and Orilleys. So took off the cheap off brand KS and switched it with the OEM part. I reset the codes by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Waited a few mins and started the car up. NO CODES!! Now I have to connect the KS back to the factory wires because I ran a straight wire from the KS to the ecm.

so for whoever is reading this. Please please please, always get OEM parts.
