Cold start idle issue
Cold start idle issue
Currently trying to resurrect my 89 firebird that sat for 10 years.
I have Currently done fuel pump, injectors, runner and throttle body gasket, coolant flush and thermostat.
I can get car running after warm and runs proper.when its on a cold start it needs me to keep rpms up or will stall unless i increase rpm on throttle. If I adjust when cold the idle too high when it is warmed up.
been working on this car for 3 weeks now and cannot determine issues.
I did just smoke it and found no vaccum leaks

Re: Cold start idle issue
Only other things I can think to add is. I tested the tps sensor and set it to recommended .54 v using a fluke but it does not max at 5v wot it maxes at 4.3ish. And tried a new iac which I even reverted back to original cause of the issue and no difference.
Re: Cold start idle issue
So found my 2nd new installed fpr ruptured.
first was a cheap one from eBay. This last one was from south bay auto through his ebay store (currently awaiting response off him) my main question is what would cause them to keep blowing.
Is there any new conversion to uodate to a newer easily aquirable regulator

Re: Cold start idle issue
It may be that there are some defective and/or very old NOS FPR diaphragms floating out in the marketplace. It could also be that the upper can of the FPR is distorted or weak, and not holding the diaphragm securely in position. If the reinforcement ring on the can intact?

As i mentioned through our numerous emails....the diaphragms we sell are GM.
I've sold thousands of these things and never in 13 years have i ever seen something like this happen.
BTW...we do not purchase from China or any other aftermarket companies. I'm very sorry for your inconvenience however It may have been a fluke as things do happen however this one was a first!!!!

post not to bash or any issue like that. You did try talk to me some. Meaning for post is try to identify why it's happened. I currently have autozone gp installed but kinda ran out of gas so gotta fill up my tank and then test fuel pressure and hope for best. In this 3rd one now
Re: Cold start idle issue
Checked fuel.preasure with and shows 70psi on a prime. With ac Delco pump with the adjustment backed out all the way and I did start it and was up to 85/90psi bouncing.
should I just remove the button and see how much the pressure can drop down?

Re: Cold start idle issue
Rechecked my fuel lines again I was able to blow through my fuel.
i notices my return line I cannot push air through back into the tank but sending I a am getting proper flow as I could have assumed.
is the return suppose to flow back to tank or is there a a back flow valve of some sort ?

Re: Cold start idle issue
The return line should flow freely back to the tank top insert. Something might be amiss. Of course, the cap should be removed to vent the tank if you are testing the lines with air, otherwise you are fighting a dead end.
Re: Cold start idle issue
I double checked the lines at tank and evap and return got swapped somehow.
when I did pump I pulled one high and other low. So somehow it got swapped down the link but issue is now fixed other then wasting about 30 in gas troubleshooting lol.
good to see it wasn't a regulator issue though.
