I used the street chip on my 85 TA and gained .2 tenths and like 2 mph so I liked it.

I haven't put mine in yet, but if it's good for .2 off your ET, it's worth it IMO.

I have heard good things about ADS and JET but for the love of *** tell him to stay away from hypertech chips. I have a stage 2 hypertech and a friend of mine that did my custom chip looked into the programing of the hypertech. There was a rais of 2* timing and the fan setting. At least it came with the car and I didnt' pay for it.

I don't know from personal experience, but I have usually heard nothing but bad things about Hypertech as well.

ADS....NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Stay away from that damn chip. I had one in my car and it gave me nothing but problems.
1. Car overheated constantly.
2. Wouldn't keep the timing the same.
3. Would cause the car to just DIE.
4. Got Horrible gas milage.
5. Would trip codes constantly.
After removing it and putting the Factory chip back in, the car ran like I just put a new motor in it. Also, never had the problems above ever again.

Take it from a few of us who have beenin your position, just get into PROM burning or get one custom burned for you. It will be cheaper and you'll be much happier with the results.

I've read the ADS chip. Only the WOT spark curves are modified, nothing else. Use the $100 towards a prom burning setup, you'll be happier.

I bought an ADS Superchip (piggyback version) for my car way back in the early/mid 90s. Frankly, I never noticed much other than the TC seemed to lock a little later.

When I got into eprom burning, I checked my ADS Superchip and the only changes I found in mine were:

1) A little extra spark in the 2,000-4,400 rpm range and only from 95 and over MAP Kpa (i.e. WOT and only at elevation levels < 1,200 feet)

2) More fuel from 2,800+ rpm from 95 and over MAP Kpa (WOT at elevation < 1,200 ft)

3) Locked the TCC at 42 MPH instead of the stock 38 MPH.

And that's all. I did a binary compare and that was the only differences between the ADS Superchip and the stock AUJP for 90-92 SD F-body cars.

Now the bad news, who ever did the spark tables was on drugs. The spark (when you graph it with TunerCat) had "waves" like and ocean. Peaks and valleys all over the place. It is the WORST Spark Curve I have seen from any BIN (aftermarket or other wise).

The rate and speed you "bring on full advance" is crucial if you want to get max power and minimize knock. After a lot of testing and monitoring, I found a spark curve that works very nicely in getting to full advance quickly without causing detonation. The difference in performance can defintiely be felt and measured.

The ONLY use I had for my ADS Supechip, was to pull the eprom and replace it with a Flash Prom and using it for prom burning, and saving my stock Memcal as my "backup".

Hey Glenn

Have you read other aftermarket chips? Like Hypertech, Jet and performance resource? If you have could you give me some info like you did on the ADS. The info was very insightful and I'd like to know more about the other brands.

Could this cause a code 42 in my 87 IROC? I found out the original owner had put in an ADS superchip... I can't get rid of code 42....

you might start your own new thread and list what you have tried.

Re: ADS Superchip

so what if it's a thread from 2002? these cars are from the 80s... so it's not like these old threads become obsolete.

I know of this flow chart and I am going to be replacing the ICM and checking wiring/grounds in the next two weeks but I was asking an abstract question; I thought maybe someone else was having their ECM throw a code 42 after inserting an ADS superchip.

Re: ADS Superchip

And how many times do fellow TGO'ers complain when people post a question that's already been addressed in another thread? I searched for ADS superchip, you should be proud of me lol

Re: ADS Superchip

So proud. Now don't do it again. Honestly like a few suggested your friend should invest in his own prom burning tools. Will get much better results and if he gets good enough he can do it for others. Just don't let him take the cheap and easy route with a mail order chip. Did you search for how many people dislike them? Might have come up with several results saying to leave them alone. In the end its your friends car and if he wants to go mail order so be it, but he was warned. Good luck.

Re: ADS Superchip

hahaha never thought "ressurecting" an old thread was mortal sin. Anyhow, I ALREADY have the ADS superchip, and it's been in the car since I bought it. So I have nothign to compare it to. But apparently it is nothign different than stock except for minor spark timing adjustments at WOT...

I'm going to have a custom chip burned at some point but first I have other major issues going on interal with this 305 TPI....
