IAC memory?
IAC memory?
I put a new IAC in my 1989 350 trans am and did one of those procedures to set it up that I saw on ytube. Started, worked great. Started the car (restoring) every other day. Today I started it and it started fine then the check engine light came on and it stalled. Started, stalled, started stall. Only way to keep it running was to give it more rpm's. My question is that I have been disconnecting the battery daily when I'm finished working on it. Will that of/on battery make the IAC or ECM loose it's memory from when I initially installed and set up the IAC.

Re: IAC memory?
Have you measured the pintle length before installing the IAC? It should be no more than 28mm from IAC base to pintle tip.
Adjust by applying thumb pressure, don't expect any sounds from the mechanism while doing so.
Then relearn the position:
Depress accelerator pedal SLIGHTLY.
Start engine, run for 5 seconds.
Ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
Start engine and see if idle meets expectations.
Cleaning the throttle blades also helps resolve stalling issues as deposits from recirculating crankcase fumes gum up the gap required for minimum idle.

Re: IAC memory?
Thanks ill give it a try. There are so many ways I see on YouTube to reset the IAC. I just did one today, after 5 minutes the car shut off. Prior to shutting off had a steady check engine light, rpm fluctuating. The IAC I installed is new. When I first installed the new IAC, went through a procedure I saw on YouTube. The car worked perfect. No Ck Engine Light, or stalling and rpm's were perfect. I disconnected the battery for 2 weeks reconnected and worked fine. Disconnected the battery again for 2 weeks, worked fine. Disconnected the battery for a couple of days, the issues returned.
Reason for the disconnect is I have a parasite drain.

Where does that draw come from? You can find out by using a multimeter on the battery and pulling one fuse after the other and see at which point the parasitic draw subsides.
In my case it used to be the head unit I got with the car and I figured it out by pulling fuses.
