OK lets try this. No Spark. Please Help.
Hey guys. The last few days, i have noticed that my car wasn't pulling as hard as it previosly did. It felt like it was pulling out timing, but wasn't registering any significant knock retart, maybe 1-3* or so. But you could feel is slow in the revs at different times, like an ignition problem.
The other day i took it out for a spin after fixing a vacuum leak, and the tack was acting wierd. It would hang up through the rpms, like a cable speedo does under accleration, but the engine seemed to be reving smoothly. It did it only under heavy throttle.
I put it in third and played with it, and at about 4500 rpm under throttle, i heard a small poof. Almost like a fuse burning out, but louder, from under the hood. It didn't sound mechanical, I think electrical. It killed the engine, and i coasted to a stop.
Well, now it seems i have no ignition. I have changed the module and coil with no luck. It cranks fine, but it seems to hang up sometimes during cranking too. It will crank fast and steady then bog for a second with drag it seems. I have fuel pressure, and no codes. It almost wants to start when cranking but doesn't. All fuses are good.
Is there a fusable link that gives power to the ignition? Could this have burned but allow a small bit of power every now and then, which would be why it almost starts? I have heard that when fusable links go out they can still pass power but very little through the melted core.
I don't know what else could have gone out. The computer seems to be working. What else in the ignition can go POOF!?
thanx in advance
Paul

Hey all,
thanx, but it turns out that it is not the ignition.
My cam gear has evidently been eating away at the distributer gear and the other night it finished it off. About 1/3 of the teeth are sheered off the distributer gear and it stopped spinning, so no spark!
I was putting it on TDC and noticed the rotor hadn't moved at all, so i wiggled it with my hand and it would rotate a good 60* till it hit the remaning gears. This sucks to say the least. But it explains ALL the problems, so that is nice. Plus i tried my ignition parts on my blazer and they work fine.
