Help with my sister's IROC

Ok guys, help me out. I need some ideas of a few things to start checking out on my sister's IROC. She has an 87 IROC and she says it died at the intersection this morning. My first guess is that she burnt up her fuel pump from running her car so low on gas recently. I know that there is a fairly broad range of possible problems here, but I just need a few ideas of what to start checking out.

I just thought of a few details that might help. She says the car would crank over just fine. It just wouldn't start. I know it could possibly be the ignition coil. I've replaced her plugs, rotor, and cap recently, which leads me to beleive that it's a fuel related problem (or lack thereof). My thoughts are fuel pump, or a relay.

The HEI module in the distributor could have gone bad, take a screw driver with you. And use it to check for spark. Also turn the key to RUN and listen for the fuel pump to prime. Hope this helps!

Simple enough.

Turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump, if you dont hear it thats your problem

It could either be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay located on the firewall by the brake booster.

You can always try the old school method of pulling a plug and setting it against the block and crank it over and see if it sparks, Just dont lick your fingers and hold onto it

As far as the relays go, could someone remind me which one is the fuel pump relay? I've seen a pic here that someone posted one time. Is there another relay that I could swap out with the fuel pump relay just to try and eliminate the relay as a problem? Would her fuel pump realy be interchangeable with mine off of my 91 L98?

I tried to search for that pic real quick, no luck.

Either way the relay is only like $7, why not just spring for one and have the piece of mind.

Well guys, it ended up being the pick-up coil. Thanks for all the suggestions.
