Porting Question ????

I am about to put a TPI system on my car and so far everyone is saying,"you might want to port it before you put it on". I am kinda new to this TPI stuff and wondering what exactly is involved in "porting".. I saw at another post where someone said it's not all that hard and all you need is a dremel tool and a compresor. Well i have both, can someone tell me what's all involved or maybe give me a link to a tech artical on how to do this?. I couldn't find anything. Any help ?

you want to use a die grinder and carbide bits. a dremil tool would work but it will take you forever.
as for how you want to port it it all depends on what you want to do with it.
what motor are you putting it on? are you wanting to rev it or go for torque. if you want some good revs you can go ahead and siamese the base like i talked about in that post (check out my link i posted in that other thread for pics)
or you can just port match it and do some good opening up of the runners and do no siamesing for good low end torque.
it just depends on what you want.
just let me or mad max know if you have questions

Look below at sig to see what i have. Not really keen on the sieamese runners(looks like a pain in the ars to do). What about port matching?..What is it??..The TPI unit i have i took off a 89 IROC that had a 350,looks pretty much like stock to me.

port matching? do you mean gasket matching? I know gasket matching is when you port out all the way to where the gaskets seal. also when I ported a set of heads I mainly went in and smoothed everything out good. I also made the bowls bigger, but make sure you don't do too much or grind on the valve seats. youll be able to port quite a bit too. any q's let me know, I'll try to help

siamesing the intake isn't too bad if you get some carbide bits made for aluminum.
you can't really port match unless you take the heads off. port matching is where you match the intake port of the head and the intake to be the same so there is a smooth transition from the intake to the head. you can go ahead and gasket match the intake to a gasket and then later on gasket match the heads if you decide to have the heads ported later.
by just gasket matching the intake you won't notice much if any of a gain since the heads aren't portmatched. you really need to grind away material inside the intake to at least try and make it smooth and not bumpy.
