ok i have the above and i am planing on running 3.42 gears, 2200 stall, slp headers, and flowmaster catback. i am considering the zz9 cam or the hot cam, which 1 would be best for my setup. this a street car mostly, it will see very little racing. i want a fast street car with decent mileage if possible, say about what i am getting now which is 18-20 mpg average.

For your combination, I would recommend the LPE 74219 cam. It's a cam that will work well with long tubes, SuperRam or a MiniRam. If your heads are not ported, I would stay with 1.5 rockers. The profile on the cam is: 219/219@ .050, .525/.525 with 1.5 rockers ground on a 112 lsa.

If you can find a used ZZ9 cam, then get it. Otherwise its $400 price from TPIS is way overpriced. You can run the LT4 HOT cam, but you might require a custom chip (or do your own chips) to get it dialed in the best. What springs are on those heads, stock? If so, stay under .500" lift. Anything more and the springs need to be changed. I used Manley 1.25" springs with 130lbs seat pressure on mine, for my LT4 HOT cam.

Check out the cam tech article on this site for more suggestions.

thanks for the info guys!!!

i am burning my own chips and i already plan to swap springs, maybe get the hot cam kit. i am interested i what is suggested for this setup.

like i said this is going to be a street car basicly, so nothing to radical. i dont want to shake and rattle at every light or draw attention to myself that may not be wanted.

What is the casting # on those heads you have and did you have to do any mods to install them?

i havent installed them yet, i am going to install everything at once rather then peice by peice. i dont see a reason to install the heads before i pick up the cam, especially if i go with a cam that will require new springs or machining to accomidate the valve lift. right now i am looking at a zz4 cam so basicly turning my l98 into a zz4.
