Help! Car is possessed!!!
Help! Car is possessed!!!
Hey, I'll get to the point. When I'm accelerating, my lights dim and my tach goes nuts along with the voltometer even though it's revving up. The engine seems to be revving normally when the tach is showing all types of weird stuff. My car now cannot maintain 13 volts when I'm driving around. When I come to a stop, it'll drop to 8-9 volts and stall sometimes... At other times, mostly during the day after getting it warm, it'll maintain 13 volts and the idle would be were its supposed to
be.
What could it be? I don't know where its specifically coming from and after the radiator 'raping' that I had experienced a few weeks ago, I now know to look to you guys before getting myself into a bad situation... I think it's the alternator, but I'm not sure, thus asking ya'll!

PS, think I should disconnect the battery to refresh the ECM and hopefully solve the problem?
be.

It sounds like the alternator. Those things dont last worth a ****. Eventually, your cars voltage wont go up anymore, and will continue to drop untill its dead. I would go that rout first, and see if that helps. Im sure it will.
Good Luck!

My 86 T/A did the same thing. It was a wild light show with digital guages. I went to Checker or Autozone and bought a replacement regulator for my alternator for about 10 bucks.
You can see the disassembly here in an article I did on:
