Large ball in fender?

I am in the process of cleaning up the engine bay and want to put my coolent tank under where the battery go's on an 87 GTA. There is room if I remove this black ball that is hollow. Does anyone know what this is and if I can remove it? I think it has something to do with emissions but I am not sure. If I remove it will it throw a code? Thanks,
Tyler

Vacuum reserve canister stores vacuum for when the power brakes or other vacuum assisted components need it.

If it is for the cruise control, then I am going to remove it, since my CC is gone now.

Are you guys sure its for cruise control? I don't have cruise, but I do have that ball. I've always wondered what it was.

if its located on the drivers side(Camaros) underneath the charcoal canister then yes it is for CC.

I figured that it was for CC, I mean my GAWD, how can a softball size chamber with a 1/4" line back up a basketball sized chamber with 3/8" line.

That black plastic ball is a vaccum canister. It is for all vaccum acutated accessories.

Yes, it's for vacuum-operated things like cruise control as well as HVAC controls, but not power brakes; if you'll look closely you'll see that the brake booster line goes straight to the intake.
