runners on a 305 tpi . . .

hey guys, just curious to know, are slp runners worth it??? i think the site said they produce 20 extra hp (are they ing or what)
oh ya, do they put a strain on the engine (since they are said to "maximize airflow")???
also, after tax and shipping, it comes out to about $295.95-is that a good price for runners?? (funds are low now though )
thanks

The price is good, its just that from what I have heard, they will hurt a 305's performance. Unless you have some other mods to justfiy the runners, theyre just not worth it on a basically stock 305. You will lose some bottom end, and gain some top. As for putting a strain on the engine, no, they make the engine breathe easier, hence more HP.

I origonally planned on getting them as well, but now am gonna do an Lt1 swap... should prove to be interesting on a 305!

Well, you could always get the Accel runners and pay $500 for them. I'd say $300 is fair. I'd worry more abou the intake and plenum first though. The intake is the most restrictive part on a TPI setup. The extra airflow from the runners won't do you any good if the intake can't use it. Work on the intake and smoothing out the plenum and then port your own runners.

ok, i think i got the idea-but i'm a little new w/ engines (i know enough to get me by) but when you mean to "smooth," or "porting" a plenum, what are you actually refering to-making those 2 holes larger for the air i'm assuming, right?!?! if so, is it hard to do, how do you do it?!?!? is it ok for the engine??
thanks guys

If you look directly into the front of the plennum, you will see 2 "walls" on the bottom. These walls shroud the egr holes, and DO NOT need to be there. What you do is grind them away with the appropriate dremel bits. The main objective is to make that area flat and level like the rest of the plennum.

88 WS6 TransAm GTA, i think i remember reading that somewhere before . . . should the whole plenum be removed from the engine? and do you know where i can see a pic of what an erg wall looks like? and what are they, just metal "blockades"??

Yeah, you must remove the plennum to do it. Once your done grinding and polishing, make sure to clean ALL of the metal particles out of your plennum. Youll know what Im talking about once you look at the plennum.

Try doin a search on plennum porting to find a good picture... if you dont find one, let me know... Ill go out to the garage and take one for you tomorrow!
