Putting in an EGR valve - currently have one that is only fed by a ported vac source.............don't ask.
I have the connector, the new solenoid, just need to know what goes where on the vacuum lines. There appears to be an 'in' and 'out' (one has a clip like hose holder that had a square of foam covering it <it is a GM solenoid>, is that in or out) in addition to what looks like another hose hookup below it............that if you blow in it is attached to the other 'male' type connector.............I have attached a pic but have a feeling you all know what I'm talking about.
The ported vacuum comes from under the throttle body, correct? Then it goes to which port on this unit?
Thanks in advance.
***Think I just read another post............one of these (I assume the top one) goes to the evap canister purge. Since this isn't part of my '79 K5 setup I should plug it................*******

Don't know about EGR but that valve is the same as used by the Sunbird Turbo's to control the wastegate.
top port went to the wastegate
bottom port goes to the intake
single (foam) port is a bleed for the top port (releases boost from the wastegate)
cheers, Bob

The port where the foam was... just put the foam right back there if you still have it.
The other 2 are for the vacuum source and EGR. I cant remember which is which right now. I want to say the upper is for the EGR just because of how the lines route on a stock application. The lower port would then hook up to the vacuum port on the driver side bottom of the throttle body. There is a y-connector somewhere inbetween that line that runs to the vacuum purge valve for the charcoal canister, but it wont affect the EGR function.

THANK YOU! I assume the foam (which I still have) is a sort of air filter then..............? Originally posted by madmax

By the way, where is the solenoid mounted? Has two mounting holes....................
Thanks again.
Yea, I think it might be an air filter of sorts.
On my car, it was mounted to a bracket that was bolted to the rear 2 bolts on the passenger side of the intake manifold. I know the 'divorced' coil setups had it mounted near the same spot, but different due to the coil. I dunno which you have but I'd have to assume if theres 2 holes, its the divorced coil setup solenoid. It might mount to the 2 intake bolts that my bracket was mounted to. Are the holes far enough apart to do that?

On my 87 T/A (referencing your picture for position) the bottom port goes to the small nipple on the bottom of the throttle body with a Y in the pipe and going over to the charcoal canister. The top one goes to the EGR port on the rear of the intake plenum passenger side, smaller one. The valve was mounted on the bracket for the external coil. Sandwiched between the bracket and the coil base. Not having it hooked up properly will give you a bad idle. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the lines, but that was how mine was, is and it runs fine. It is actuall mounted in my car reverse of your picture with bracket on bottom.

You guys are great, great resource on this board. I have external coil and I think the spacing is correct. I'll look at it today.

OK I was wrong. Just went and looked at my car because I was questioning my memory. The bottom (first in your pic, the one in line with the solenoid and foam filter thingy) port goes to the EGR diaphram valve mounted in the intake manifold base. The other one goes up front to the throttle body port with the Y over to the charcoal canister. Sorry for the confusion. Good Luck!!

I went to look at my 89 TPI and the first line (bottom goes to teh vac line on the TB and the top one goes to the egr valve.
