Cheapest place to get a new 350?

How much am I looking at slapping down on a 350? I don't exactly want to junkyard one, seeing as I have no clue what the previous owner did to the motor to get it there (don't need a cracked block or anything). There is a distinct possiblity I will be able to get rid of the 305 this summer (dad's changed his tune about engine swaps) and I'm looking for prices. Hopefully a copmlete engine (i.e. cam & heads, just sans induction since I'll have the TPI setup off the 305). And would the 19lb injectors feed the 350? Probably not... 350's came with 22lb/hr, right? Anything else I'd need to change other than the injectors and PROM?

I'm planning on doing the same thing this summer, but unlike you, dad hasn't changed his tune. But that's beside the point. If you are thinking of building your engine (like starting with a short block), that can get pricey, depending on the short block you start with (i.e. l98 short block w/ 2-bolt main: 1099.99; l31 w/ 4-bolt main: 1199.99; or zz4 w/ 4-bolt, forged parts : 1889.99), + cam, + heads, etc, etc, etc. This is from www.sdpc2000.com. Then you can get long blocks from 2000+. There's a guy on ebay who sales crate 350's, 355's, and 383's, for generally between 2500 to 2900, with cam and stuff (has list of every thing), and a 1 year warranty to boot. If you do any of these, I'd at least recommend new fuel injectors, 24# preferrably from accel, and a new custom chip from www.fastchip.com (i think thats the place). If you have the tbi, yer gonna have ta get an ecm from a junk yard and a wire harness. For the swap, there might also be a few other things here and there that you'll find. But other than that, happy engine swapping.

More than likely... the easiest and cheapest way to get a 350 except going to the junk yard and getting one is to get a crate engine. and as i have been told... do not use the stock TPI from the 305... the stock TPI is good on low end torque, however it has a tendency to choke out hp at high rpms...

Just so you know, the 305/350 TPI systems are IDENTICAL except for the injectors. All you will need to change is the knock sensor, injectors (as you know) and the ECM. That will get you running, then you have a boat load of options.

Not sure how far away from Pinellas County you are,but for less than $2k(or there abouts) ,GlennZ Performance would build you a 90's block 350 ,bored .30 over, with decent(I got x-rods)rods,pistons,and a mild, torquey cam.You could upgrade parts, budget permitting,Glenn uses your existing induction, but everything else is included, providing you supply a core of course. He owns Money Hungry Racing and has been doing this for awhile,he used to work for Chevrolet.Decent base motor to start with if you're not looking to spend a ton, with only upgrades from there to work on.All the motors I've seen from him ,I haven't heard a complaint,he does great work that's affordable.I figured I'd post since I see you're in Florida too.I took a 350 he built for me and replaced the 305 in my '87 Iroc w/ it.I installed it myself using all my 305 components and it flows this 350 fine.Stock 19 lb/hr injectors, stock comp. and chip, etc.I plan on getting larger injectors and doing some prom burning down the road, but have run this combo, minus a.i.r. crap, for 3 1/2 months.(If it ain't broke ,don't fix it)I get excellent gas mileage ,comp. throws no codes and everything works in harmony quite well. Not to mention I've yet to be beat by a rustang or stock L98 yet.I've even dusted a fair share of modified carbed motors.I run 3.23's so that helps on takeoff.Glenn puts emphasis on torque and what makes you go from a to b quicker than actual horsepower numbers.I ported the plenum and have done some small mods ,but am building my wallet for better things to come.I have 3 " exhaust,Flowmaster muffler, and a high flow cat,and I couldn't ask for more for the price w/ some do it yourself and not upgrading the induction.Basically to sum this post up you can have a decent motor for a decent price if you find the right place, and you can use your existing setup to get you by just fine, without spending more than you want to,or upgrading the TPI immediately.Don't let anyone say your 305 setup won't work because it's more than adequate, and my '87 is a daily driver to boot..........if you ever make it to Sunshine Speedway,I'm sure to see ya around.....L8R!

I thought the 305 and 350 ecm were the same..... the only difference in the prom is the 350's are auto, while the 305's can be manual/auto..... i dunno??
