ZZ9 alternative
Well guys, Its tax return time and its gettin warm, so it's time to start work on the IROC. I'm planning on getting Corvette aluminum heads, 1.6 rrs, ported and siamised runners and intake, afpr, pulleys, air foil and a couple other goodies. I contacted TPIS on what time of cam I should go with and they suggested their ZZ9 cam and new springs. They said it would give me a nice idle and a good 30-35 hp gain. But for $375 i think i might be able to find somthing a little cheaper. I emailed them back on the specs on the cam and their response was:
int 212
ex. 226
lift . 485 int
ex. . 520
Sep 112
Do you guys know of any other cam that would have the same numbers but not cost me a big chunk of my return money? Any other cam suggestions are appreciated also TIA guys.

Take a look at the cam tech article on this website. There are a ton of roller cam suggestions there. Cams similar to the ZZ9 would be the GMPP ZZ4, and the Accel LPE211, off the top of my head. Other good choices for your mods would be the LPE219, and the GMPP LT4 HOT cam. I'm running the Corvette L98 heads with an LT4 HOT cam, and I highly recommend you have those heads ported and install new springs. Also dont bother with larger valves in them, the stock ones are fine. Larger valves in these heads arent worth the cost.

As with Kevin, my first choice would be the LPE 211/219, it's about $315. If that's too much, check out Comp Cams for a similar grind.

Thanks guys! I think I'm gonna go with the lt4 hot cam on this one. What is the part # for it from www.gmpartsdirect.com so I can order one? Someone said they got theirs for $165. Thats a lot better then $375!

I got my LT4 HC locally to save on shipping...... but seemed to have had a brain-fart, as I forgot to factor in state sales tax! So it ended up running me about $190 total. I think going with a internet order and skipping any sales tax is the way to go if their shipping isn't too high. Either way, the GMPP roller cams are tough to beat with their extremely low prices.
