TPI on 400 ci

Is it possible to let TPI support modified 400 ci (rather mild)? If so will it cost me arm and leg?

Now I have a carb settup (and perhaps I will keep it), but if I would chose an EFI:

1) I can buy an TPI (from 305) with ECM, fuel pump, harness for about $300. What would I have to spend to make it work on the 400?

2) Buy a mini/superram (complete with computer and harness) for about $3000 I think.

I think #1 would be cheaper because I live in Iceland and everything I import is much more expensive than in the USA. It would of course be much cheaper to use Holley 750 or something like that.

well.. TPI can work on a 400 * i have 1 on my 406* but its not cheap. the 1 from the 305 CAN work. but u will have to modify the hell out of it. u will need to get a 58mm t.b. port the snot out of the plenum, and the intake. * i just went to TPIS and ordered from there. how much hp/tq u trying to get from it. i may just post everything that i got on my 406 for u so u can see whats all involved. btw, u dont want the miniram, it doesnt make its power till way up in the RPM's and 400 blocks arent real high RPM motors.

I too run TPI on my 406 with NO porting/siamesing at all. 24 lb injectors and a 52mm throttle body is about all I have over stock. Runs like a bat out of heck but I don't rev it over 5K. No dyno runs but it moves my 5500 lb K5 Blazer quite nicely.

Don't waste your money on a 52mm. I say bolt it together with some 24 lbers and have a torque monster beast. If you have the means, port the stock 305 stuff b/c that is a cheap mod.

What parts did you choose on your 400 build up? The stock compression is something like 8.2 so I assume I should get flat top pistons and/or new heads. I can get Edelbrock aluminum heads for cheap.

The stuff for the TPI is expensive, but I could put a carb on it though I would like to use the TPI (don´t have to worry about emission).

What are times you running in the 1/4 or 1/8 with your 406?

The best option for you would be to talk to John Millican and put a modified LT1 intake on. Miniram performance, very affordable price. I'll bet the shirt off my back it will absolutely kill a 406 tpi setup in a race. The 406tpi will have more traction issues, much less breathing potential, and a narrow power band. The peak dyno #'s may not be too different, but in real world situation LT1 is just a better choice.

Have you even considered this?

How much do you think a modified LT1 intake would cost? Do the sell it with harness and computer?

There is no way I am going to find an LT1 in Iceland so I have to order everything from USA.

I know the smartest way would be to use something like Holley 750 but I would like to have an EFI.

I forgot you were in Europe

They do need some serious modification to work properly. Im sure if you paid for the shipping (and part) John could set you up with one. PM him and see what he can do for you. You can use a tpi computer, injectors, and fuel rails.
