The best I could get was a 15.93 (2.4 60'). My car is a 305, auto and 3.42 gears. Only mods are K&N filter, gutted airbox, Lakewood Lower Control Arms, and SLP muffler.
Traction was a major issue with my "rubberband" tires (205/55/16) and will probably be getting some new tires this week or next (Nitto NT450 in 245/50/16). I am also hoping to buy air foil with in 2 weeks and Headers and Y pipe (looking at Hedman, other ideas would be appriciated) soon as well.
Does anyone know any other free mods I could do to get faster? Is the 15.9 a good time for my basically stock 305? The sad part about this is, that a month ago I broke my 95 Tbird and with a smaller motor, and 3.08 gears, I ran a 15.0 (lotsa other work tho; filter, intake tube, chip, bigger mass air, 2600 stall, shift kit, and 225/60 tires Yokohama 550V tires).

I would think 15.9 is a little high for a TPI. I dont know what year you car is as a base my friends BONE stock 91 Z28 305 TPI auto with 2:73s went 15.3 with full stereo equiment. His 60fts were 2.0-2.1s. Im betting with better 60fts that time will come down considerably, practice that launch and invest in some stickier tires and youll see a big improvement....

definately. traction is EVERYTHING. last time i visited the track, my first pass was a 14.3 with a 2.4 60ft. for my 2nd pass, i got my 60ft down to 2.0 and went 13.6. if you can get it down to 2.1-2.0 expect to shave about 4-7 tenths off your time.

yo wes you posted your time on my servey and you want to know how to make your car faster
i have basicly the same car as you
89 trans am with a 305 tpi auto with 3.45 gears
i have 245/50/16s
and i pulled off a time of 14.86@89.6mph
and a best 60' of 2.02
i have no suspension mods and if i did i would be runing faster not to mention my posi is shot and i only spin one tire
you should be runing much faster
a stock tpi 305 should run 15.70 nothing higher
all my mods are in my sig and if you are looking for headers i would get the flowtechs because the 1.5" primarys are perfect for our engine size
they fit very well, come with a y pipe that hooks up to our exhaust exactly and it only costs 200 for the muffler and y-pipe combo
if you do what i did in my sig you should be in the 14's for only a cuple hondred dollers
good luck

I have a set of Edelbrock headers (TES i believe) that I'm about to sale. They're ceramic coated and smog legal. If you're intersted email me and i'll give you more details.
