12 bolt decision
12 bolt decision
OK guys, I have a chance to buy a 12 bolt with 3.55's for 250.00. Guy says it has like 20k miles or so. I did a search and got like 16 pages of results. I just want to know if this is a good deal and how much of a PITA it is to swap it out with my BW9. I have the 2.77 in there now. How much would it affect my speedo? Thanks for the help. Thomas

Unless it's out of a first gen f-body or a Nova, it'll be too wide for a third gen.
There's no way to attach the third gen's torque arm to a non third gen diff. The closest thing you can do is use a ford 9" housing and buy a mounting bracket that's welded to the housing from Currie. Moser won't sell one seperatly. A 12 bolt is cast iron so welding a mount on is risky and will probably break. The only other way to use the 12 bolt is to change the rear suspension to ladder bars or a 4-link to remove the torque arm system. By the time you're done, it will be cheaper to just buy an aftermarket 12 bolt that's designed to bolt into a third gen with all the proper mounts and width.
