I know the transmission has been in and out of the shop, the PO left me a big stack of maintenance records. Of course the warranties stay with the purchaser, not the car. '91 RS TBI no mods. If I drive it real mellow like, I don't notice the problem, if I'm accelerating when I hit the 2-3 shift, the engine rpms flash higher, then it shifts into third, and everything is fine, until the next time. I've read through about 10 pages of transmission problems on this forum, but I must admit that I didn't get much of an idea on what to do about the problem. If it needs rebuilt, I'm going to swap to a stick, but now isn't really a convenient time for a project. I'll check the fluid tonight for smell and the presence of any metal. Help is very much appretiated.

Assuming you haven't yet smoked the clutches, You may be able
to cure the 2-3 flair up with a Transgo shift kit, corvette servo
and larger boost valve to tighten up the shifts.
These trannies seem to be real critical on fluid level too.
I actually overfill mine a little (1/2 qt.) and saw a noticable improvement.
A sticking TV valve is the most probable cause. (corrected by the kit)

i have had the same exact problem- to the letter T- and i adjusted my cable per leo's nstructions last night and now i have no slip 2-3 shift, at least i havent yet since then, this trans was driven on with cable disconnected for at least 6 months cuz the cable enfd plastic broke off, p/o said had a shift kit in it, seemed lie it did cuz of how damn hard it shifted, but nope, was all cuz of no cable, dont ever beleive previous owners for a second no matter how smart they seem to be,
i alos added some brake fluid to tranny before the cable adjustment, about 1 month ago and it seemd to star helping 2-3 shift clutches grab better and not slip so much
if tranny holds up with no symptoms anymore then i may go for a transgo kit

who has best deal on these kits ?

good luck
