I hear the Vigilante works so well that you can run 2.73's and still have a good launch.
For almost $900 it better....
Dana at Pro-Built can hook you up. (send endorsement check to me later
j/k)

Yank, Vigilante, Pro-Torque....
there are many good converters out there. I don't think one can be declared the best though. Any are a good choice.
More people run Vigs on thirdgens, and Yanks seem to be more popular on forth gens.
I run a Yank and am 100% satisfied with it. It is extremely streetable with a 3200 stall, just a little looser than stock unless going up a hill.
I can't give you before and after times since I put it in with a new engine that currently isn't running right.

I am a distributor for Precision Industries Vigilante, ($729.00), and A.C.T.'s Mag 245 ($565.00), these are the the 9.5" lockup torque converters, and each come with a one year warranty and a free stall change if necessary. Stall speeds from 2,400-3,600 rpm available. The Mag 245 weighs about 17lbs. less than the stock 12" TC, much easier on the gear train. If you have any questions, let me know?

2800 vigilante behind a stock 305 here. No ET yet (within the month), but driveability is excellent. The hardest part is resisting the urge to use the stall all the time, something accelerating slowly in second, then gooseing it and pulling the converter to 4k and feeling the slingshot of torque throw you down the road. But i digress.

Don't overlook the ACT converter that Pro-Built sells. It appears to do what the Vigilante does and is built almost identical, for a few hundred less. I got a Pro-built trans and an ACT 2600 converter and am awaiting the install.
There are many others on this board who are running a Pro-built 700R4 and an ACT converter.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the ACT converters. I'm just saying that there is more to converter than stall and diameter. Some of us would rather pay a little extra to know we're buying the best thats all. And right now vig and yank are the hot pieces to have.

We shall find out
I won't have time to swap in my Pro-built trans and ACT converter until around June 1 (damn job)...but I do have a 406 with a SR that I will be bolting on around the same time.
The track/street results later in the summer will be positive, from what my research tells me. Besides that is an extra $150 to go towards my PROM equipment

The only problem with the Yank and Vig convertors is that you can't hook up after you get one.
The deeper the rear gear the better the convertor will feel. I will probably upgrade to the TP4000 or PT4200 stall with a 4.10 gear.

Guys - since we're on the topic - what's a fair price for a 700R4 rebuild with performance in mind? I'm looking at a 2800rpm stall converter, shift kit, and tougher bands (?).

well, i dropped 0.28 in the 1/4 to a 14.10, and dropped my 60' from 2.063 to 1.875, and that is still using real street tires and completely stock suspension. And IMO there is more in it once i get my shift points straight and do some more tuning. 13s are definitely in it as it sits with a little work...
