Axle/Gears: 3.42 auburn
9 bolt aussie rear?

has anyone every heard of and austraillian 9 bolt rear in a 87 ta?
My friend took his into the shop today and the said that he has a 9 bolt aussie rear, was trying to put in a new posi gear but it wouldnt fit

The 9 bolt rear came in several cars. GTA's and IROC's predominatly, but was in others also. It really depended on the option package. It's a good rearend, but is hard to find parts for and those parts are generally expensive. All of them had a posi and none of the 10 bolt stuff will fit. I beleive that they do not run a c-clip. Rather they have a hub on the end of the axle kinda like the 9 inch Ford's do.

The 9 bolt was the high performance option for 3rd gens in the late 80's. It is a much stronger rear than the 10 bolt. All the info and available parts are at www.9bolt.com
