TC lets go?

When I downshift with my 700r4, you would expect to slow down, however the TC feels like it lets go and I just coast. It'll upshift fine tho. Are there different components used when downshifting as opposed to upshifting?

Thanks

Tom

Are you saying that the transmission feels like it is in neutral when you let off? If it is then the overrun clutches & the input sprag could be gone.

yep, feels like im in neutral, the RPMs drop to about park idle, 800 rpm or so. Then when I get on it a lil more than half throttle or so, the torque converter feels like it re-engages and ill start to accelerate again. It'll kick down alright too if i just floor it. Its just if i want to downshift. Does that sound like what you think? If so, is a rebuild needed? Also will it last till the summer or is it just gonna all start going down hill from here? Thanks!

I hate to go right for the TV cable like 90% of the other problems, but, I had my TV cable adjusted too tight and had the same thing. There was no resistance when letting off the throttle. Seemed to engage again when applying throttle. Try adjusting the cable and see where it takes you. If I remember right, the standard adjust to full position and stomp on it to bring it back to the correct position is what caused my problems. Back it off a couple clicks from this position and it should get rid of the problem. Just my experience.

If the overrun clutches and/or overrun sprag is gone, and that is what it sounds like. Then the transmission has to be taken out to correct this and any other things that need to be fixed/repaired. Any TV cable adjustments will not solve/fix this. if I can help, let me know?

The only reason I say to check is because I talk from experience. It could be mechanical, also. If you do a lot of downshifting, you could have broken something. I can't remember if my tranny did it when I downshifted, but, when in OD or D it would free-wheel after letting off the gas.

Let me know what you find out. I'm interested to see if I have the only tranny known that had the problem.

Forgot to ask this in the previous post. PRO-BUILT, can you check out my post about my tranny kicking out of 3rd after being in it for a few seconds? I will bring it back up top. This one is beyond me. I am planning on taking the VB off in the near future to double check everything and install the Police car fix for OD. I appreciate any direction you can give me. There is no substitute for experience. :hail:Pro-Built

I played with the TV cable a bit as someone else had instructed and it didnt really make a difference.. I'm gonna hafta have it rebuilt ... I just hope it'l'l hold out to the summer. Pro Built do u think it will just start dying now? Because the upshifts are great..

Thanks
