NEED HELP -- Non 3rdgen, but still family.

ok, here's the lowdown.

I have a '66 Impala. Right now it has a 283 and 3-on the tree.

I'm working on other aspects of the car and am about ready to get a 350 TPI and possibly a T5.

My dad is getting a deal from a friend.

A FREE!!! Borg Warner T-5. Here's the kicker, it's from a '87 Mustang GT.

What can I do to make it work with my car?

Can I use it?

I don't know if this'll work, but I know it's a strong transmission, and ever since I got the impala 4 years ago, I've had dreams of modern fuel injection and a 5 or 6 speed tranny.

Help me out, adapter plates? anything. this thing is free and I want it so bad, but I have this feeling that it's all in vain, because it's from a Mustang.

Don't know a thing about ford trannys, many moons ago I cut down an imput shaft from a chrysler hemi 4 speed for my buddy. He used a lakewood bellhousing and a home made adapter plate to put it in a 69 nova race car. You can make anything work if you want it bad enough. I know that years ago chevy used a brass bushing instead of the bearing, for the end of the crank. If one of those are still available, you should make it work pretty easy.

looks like it's not gonna happen.

I'll just have to wait till somebody local to me, or in the Midwest F-Body Association wrecks their 5 or 6 speed car. I'll have to make a deal for the motor and trans, wiring and PCM.

that'll be a nightmare.

that sucks. no WC t-5 for me.
