Hurst Shifter
Hey anybody who can help.. I want to install a hurst promatic 2 in my 89 rs.. does anybody know what the second cable goes to that connects to the stock shifter? the one on the right that moves when you push the button in.. is it just a return spring for the button? I know the one on the left is the one that actually controls the tranny..

That's the ignition key lockout... you know, the thing that prevents the shifter from moving when the key isn't turned to "on". It also prevented you from turning the key off if the car was in gear.
For my B&M Megashifter, the instructions said to use wire to lock the cable "in" it's sheath. I looped wire thru the eye of the cable, and twisted it around the base of the cable sheath.
Keep in mind that if you ever turn the key off while driving, the shift lock is gone, so your steering wheel will lock up while you're moving! Just don't turn the car all the way off while you're moving and you'll be fine.
Oh and make sure you don't leave the car in neutral when you shut it off. I've done that a few times. Good thing for an emergency brake!
