sounds like you got one of two things
1. Someone thought it would be funny to put the wrong tag on your diff.
2. Your posi isn't working right, possibly worn out.
I'm not an expert on it, but i have a posi rear axle off of an 86 trans am, and it says Spin resistant on the tag. My guess is GM either changed the way they stated it, or its a different model posi.

well... i'm not an expert here but heres something to think about. My tag says Slip resistant Diff. and its a 9 bolt, your car is a 89 iroc which is pry a 9 bolt, what year is your friends car? is it a 10 bolt? that would make a difference because the 9 bolts are australian rear ends. hth

my 9 bolt tag says spin resistant. It's the aussi english translation to limited slip.

I spent last week with 2 aussi's. an "elevator" is called a "lift".
"right away" is said "straight away"

man is mate.

there is a language barrier even though they speak "english"

Yep. A tight 9 bolt is much stronger than a 10 bolt. More info is at www.9bolt.com

Count the bolts on the rear cover, either 9 or 10 there...

Re: Spin Resistant Rearend Posi???

I've seen some old ones brought back, but I don't recall seeing one 15 years old before.
Anyway, gtaformula, welcome. Some people on here are nicer than me, and some are not.

Re: Spin Resistant Rearend Posi???

Now that you mention it, I think you're right on the age of the thread being brought back to life. It's all good. Lemme go back and find a good one from 2000!
Again, welcome gtaformula!

Re: Spin Resistant Rearend Posi???

As far as I know all of the 9 bolt rear ends had the Borg Warner limited slip differential. I have seen one picture of a 9 bolt standard differential, but never seen one in person. The Borg Warner unit will wear out and then it will start spinning one tire, but it can be rebuilt 1 time. If yours only spins one tire then it will need to be rebuilt or replaced. There is a better differential available now for the 9 bolt. It's the Eaton Truetrac and a few people on this sight have used them and they love them.

Exactly. It's a little frustrating to see a post on a subject that's been answered a hundred times. Good use of a great site. Keep digging gtaformula and you will find a ton of information on the 9 bolt.

Re: Spin Resistant Rearend Posi???

There is a good thread on here about how to recondition the Borg Warner differential. If you look at the stickys you will find several links to 9 bolt threads that have a lot of useful information.
