Reverse Only

I have an 87 camaro with a 700r4 trannsmission and it only goes in revese. Here is what happened. I took off from a stop sign and right when I got across the street I hit a big pothole. The car reved up really high like it was in neutral. I let off the gas somewhat and it acted ok. I give it some more gas to test it out and it reved up again. I made it a few blocks until it finally would not go anymore. All the gears feel like they are in neutral. It works fine in reverse though. There is not any bad noises or anything like that. Anybody have an ideas what is wrong with it. Thanks for any ideas.

First thing to check would be if there is any obviouse damage to the pan or linkage. If the car had bottomed when you hit the pothole the pan could be slammed up against the filter. or the linkage may have been damaged to where you only had the first couple detents. Park, Reverse, Neutral.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I hope it is only the linkage or something not too expensive like that. The damage to the linkage does make sense because I do only have park, reverse, and neutral. I am going to look at it tomorrow but I am no mechanic so I dont know if it will help all that much. At least now I have an idea of what to look for though.
