Have axle numbers, but no referance

I was doing the rear brakes on my camaro and decided to check the axle code that is stamped on the axle tube. I couldn't find a referance to cross the number to determine what I have for a diff and ratio.
I have a 1984 Z28 5.0 HO 5spd w/rear disks.

Here is the number on the axle tube:
6PM 6232 1

If anyone can cross these numbers, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Well, I found a referance for the axle codes at :
http://www.thirdgenresource.com/colo...g.html?sid=284

It turns out that my rear axle has a 10 bolt 3.73 ratio and is not locking. Though I dont know what diameter gear it is.

Its not too bad. I may stick this axle in my 82 Z28 that I just bought and build it up for a sport racer. (I hope to play at the track some) The 82 currently has rear drums.

I got a pretty good deal on this 82. I paid $800 for the whole car. It has a newly rebuilt 350 with new Edelbrock carb, intake and Accel distributor. The car itself needs a bit of work. My original intention was to part the car out. but I later thought it may be ok to fix it up to run down the strip occasionally.

I will find a later model axle assembly with disks for the 84 Z28.
(or maybe just find another axle for the 82, .... decisions decisions..)
