Pushing in on the clutch!
Pushing in on the clutch!
My friends like to sit in my camaro and dream they could drive it and play around with the 6 speed! They shift the gears without pushing in on the clutch. Is this bad for the car? Keep in mind the car is not running!

I have been told to press the clutch when doing that... although I am not sure why. I think it allows the input shaft to rotate so you don't put strain on the gears/syncros. That would be my guess.
No danger
They are free to shift w/o the clutch with the car parked all day long. If they try to put the transmission in gear, and it won't let thim, it feels like they are hitting a wall, then they will need to push the clutch in the first time, but if it slides in, its fine. Stress is put on the transmission when you shift clutchless b/c the engine and transmission are spinning at different speeds, if the car isn't move they are both spinning at the same speed, 0 RPM. Therefore there is no damage done.
