How do I flush tranny cooler/lines?

IM swapping in a new tranny and wondering whats a good way to flush them out. Seems simple enough but what do I use? I did a search and someone mentioned you could buy some type of solvent in a can that you hookup to one line and flush it out that way.

How did you guys flush yours out?

Thanks,
Mike

I havent seen it in parts stores but tranny shops have a can of flush they use. It comes in "fix-o-flat" type can that attaches to the cooler lines. It works good and Im sure any transmission place should be able to hook you up.

I disconnected the trans, the cooler lines and the radiator too. Then I flushed the trans + lines with solvent but the radiator only with new ATF fluid 2 - 3 times and moved it horizontally for washed and refilled it and later vertically for flushed it.

Mike,

I wouldn't screw around with flushing out the radiator part of the trans cooler. Simply don't utilize it.

Use a good aftermarket cooler and that is it. I have talked to Dana at Pro-built about this and it makes sense especially if you are worried about engine cooling like I am.

The factory cooler just isn't as efficient as an aftermarket one and I would bypass it. Also, the lines are getting a bit old...bending new hard lines isn't all that hard.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys guys...The tranny is in and working great, I installed the cooler in line with the radiator for now. When time and money permits, I think I will go with a larger cooler and bypass the radiator.
