How to Remove shift lever from 5-speed

Iam removing a 5 speed transmission from a 1983 Camaro to swap into a 1984 Camaro (That currently has an automatic).

I almost completed the removal of the manual, then I found that the shift lever is blocking removal. I looked in theShop Manual and I appear to have overlooked removing the shift lever.

However , the Shop manual does not state HOW to remove the shift lever.

Should I try and unscrew the top half from the bottom Half (I have already tried, and this doesn't look easy. Should I remove the 4 bolts holding the plate at the base of the shifter and try to remove it this way? what will I find after I remove the bolts?

Thank you for your assistance in helping a beginner with this task.

Heavy_Chevy29. Thank you for your reply.

You said "pulled the entire thing out". It was as simple as this? Or are there some complications I should pay attention to in "pulling the entire thing out" ?

I am refering to How the shifter is linked inside the transmission.

Jus take your time when you remove your counsole. Dont go breaking anything, After its out look down inside. 4-5 bolts to remove your dust cover an the same for the shifter, shifter lifts stright out .

yeah its as simple as that. you must have the console out. once thats out you can pull the carpet back to access the boot(i think its like 6 bolts). once the boot is out you will see 4 bolts at the base of the shift. unbolt it. the shifter and shifter base will pull right out. there really isnt any linkage to to mess up. its like a ball and socket set up.

please feel free to ask any further question.
