curious if this is possible.....i'd like not to have to switch shifters TWICE

i was just going to use a stock 3 speed shifter but if there is a way i can shim the stocker to work, i'd appreciate any info

Yes it works. I used my 700r4 shifter for a couple of years with a TH350 then a TH400. You dont even need to shim it, it moves and has adjusters already on the cable.

it would just be "there"

what i want to do is actually shim the shifter to lock out one of the gears so it will just shift 3 gears

i know someone used a 3 speed for a 4 speed shifter, but dont know about going the other way

We took the V6/od out of an 85 last year and put in a V8/th350 , and the stock shifter worked fine, P,R,N, were the same, OD was drive, D was 2nd, 2 was 1st, and the shifter wouldn,t even go down into 1st.

Checked it underneith at the tranny too and all the gears were lining up perfect with the shifter and engaging all the way.
