3:23 gears

I am getting a really good deal on brand new 3:23 gears and I want to know what kinds of gains I can expect out of them? What needs to be done to put them into my rear end?

DynoDon just installed Richmond 3.42's in my RS a few weeks ago, noticed a huge difference from the stock 2.73's, much quicker off the line. The Auburn posi & the new gears are one of the best mods that I've done so far. You will need a 3 series carrier because you currently have a 2 series carrier with your stock 2.73's.

So it will be a noticable difference in acceleration? How much would a 3 series carrier cost?

No he won't, he'll just need to get 3.23 gears meant for the 2 series carrier.

These 3:23s are meant for a 10 bolt which I have so do you think I will need a new carrier?

Good 3.73 gears + install kit will cost you around $350-$400. I would guess labor to be around $200? You never know with shop prices these days.

Why can't he do what I said and get the 3.23s that fit the 2 series carrier?

Well I don't know which carrier these 3:23 go to. I am getting them though because they are cheap. With the 3 series carrier can I upgrade to 3:73 later without having to change it again?

I still want to know about the carriers. Need to know if the 3 series carrier will work if I eventually change the 3:23 for 3:42 or 3:73?

They make them for both series 2 or 3. It is only if you want to use the stock GM posi that you must match the 3 series gears to the 3 series carrier. You will have to ask the guy you are buying the gears from whether they are meant for the 2 or 3 series carrier. Even if they are meant for the 2 series carrier, which is what you seem to have, PowerTrax makes a posi that will fit right in, should you eventually want one.
