Can't smoke 'em! Help!
Can't smoke 'em! Help!
Okay,
I know it's not all that good for the car, but, for the ladies, I do brakestands every now and again. I have Mickey Thompson Sportsman I's in the back. The tread width on these bad boys is twelve inches. Man it looks mean. But I only have a 305 under my foot. Needless to say, I can still spin 'em, but when I'm doing the brakestand, the engine seems to govern itself at 2100 (ish) rpms
If I keep on it for a minute or so, it will jump up and really burn the tires...Why do I have to wait? Why is it holding back? Can I fix it somehow? I'll be at the Summer Nationals in Worcester MA on Fourth of July Weekend, and I planned on throwing some crappy tires on the back and putting on a little smoke-show at the burnouts. So any help would be appreciated.

1. Tune up your engine.
2. Or swap in something with more power.
3. Cheat and use water
4. Use one of the above to help...
BTW, what kind of "ladies" really like to see burnouts with a 305?
Just make sure it isn't a relative

A trick that's used in VW burnout shows is to have an electric washer fluid reservior installed and have the outlet plumbed to point at the rear tires. Add 1/4 bleach and 3/4 water and you're all set. There's a transition between not spinning and a really good spin where the wheels hop so much in the VW, that it pulls itself out of gear, hence the water injection helper.

bleach is awesome for this, but be warned, brakestanding or powerbraking as i call it is supposed to be BAD for the transmission, the rear brakes and even the engine, just making sure you know

I wonder if wisk detergent would work well
Wisk is impossible to wash off your hands cause it is so thick and slippery. Imagine a burnout full of bubbles

All I can say is
WHY?
I have gone thru a tranny rebuild and a busted gear set for my differential... if you only knew the pita it is to fix those things, you wouldn't do it....
I dunno bout most of you, but the ladies I know get a kick outta things that just pulls hard and doesn't let up...

Most girls get a kick out of a clean ride. Just try giving your car a nice car wash and wax job to make it smooth for the ladies.
The thing with brakestands is that when u aply the brakes, all four sides are holding the car, so when you give it gas it takes the power of the engine to break lose the rear brakes, and then after doing you still have to break lose the tires from the ground. So if you have really good tires with good traction then it would be even harder t get the tires to move.
So my advise is to keep what u have and install line locks, i think jegs sells them, what they do is lock the front brakes but not the rear brakes making it easy for you to burnout, and not wearing down ur rear brakes, and take alittle less stress off the tranny.

Beings how we are tearing s**t up anyway, just crimp the rear brake lines. Wish I had your problems....... You have to wait for the rear brakes to get hot enough that they dont hold....do you have any Idea what kind of stress this is putting on your car? I hope your ladies are impressed whaen you get off the bus...

I do agree that it puts stress on these car, but just the fact that some are like 10+ years old sports car and still preform great after being abused for many years means that they can handle most of it.
