t700r4 in t200 out ???

i have a 1982 z/28 this car has no computer in it,,its removed,,,i am goint to run a 400ci carb engine and install a t700r4 ,,,can any model gearbox from a third gen be installed ,,,and will the overdrive work and will the car change gears normally ,,,,remember this car has no computer,,, a guy has just offered me a 1991 t700r4 i am in australia and cant be making the wrong decision on whick model gearbox i buy,,,,will the 91 work like it should without a computer,,,and will the torque converter work like normal 1982 z/28 no computer

The transmission will shift normally (with the proper throttle valve cable going up to the carb for the TH700, that is), but the torque converter clutch will not lock up. For that, you need a manual switch, or a retrofit lockup kit.

The biggest issue is the length. The TH700 is longer than the TH200, so the crossmember, driveshaft, and torque arm all need to be shorter parts. Also, in '82 they did not have the back two bolt holes in the frame for the crossmember, so you will need to drill the frame and get some nuts inside there for those bolts.

Other than that, it's a good upgrade.
