aussie t700r4 vs us t700r4

So guy looking at a 86 iroc to buy that is a rolling shell. I know i can get an engine easily enough in aus. My question is am i able to use a v8 holden commodore trans which is a t700r4 also. What are the differences between the two if any?
Cheers

Because of the Coriolis effect, the Aussie 700r4 turns backwards compared to the U.S. 700r4.

vetteoz is right, most of us probably wouldn't know. One thing that's popular over here is to swap the 305 and 700r4, for a 5.3 LS truck motor and either a 4L60E or even a 4L80E. So you might have that option as well. The advantage of the E version is that you can program it alongside the 5.3. The 4L80E would take some modifications though.

If you want to stick with the 700r4, the post 1987 versions are supposed to be better. IIRC you can tell by differences in the pan and by a number on the pump.
Actually here, this may help:

Got swapped at the same time as the steering wheel

What you are going to need is a 3rd Gen tailshaft housing ( to mount the torque arm ) swapped on to any local T700 you use.

Edit
Alternative is make a custom crossmember with the torque arm mount like this

http://umiperformance.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=298

so you don't need the 3rd Gen tailshaft housing

Re: aussie t700r4 vs us t700r4

You are not limited to using a T700.
In the USA , there are crossmembers available to fit a TH350 or TH400

http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...bdq3liis264de1
http://umiperformance.com/catalog/in...roducts_id=300

The torque arm is mounted off the crossmember rather than the trans
Locally I would just fab one up if you went that direction instead of the cost of importing one
