Depends on what year iroc, and what motor it had. I know that at least up til 87 that some of the 305's including tpi had 10 bolts. My friends 87 had a 2.73 10 bolt. I think 87 and up if it had a 350 or a 305 w/ a 5 speed it was a 9 bolt but otherwise I think it was still an option. If he had 3.73s I would almost guess that it was a 10 bolt because not a ton of people know of the 9 bolt gears or spring for them when they do because of cost. Count the bolts on the cover to find out for sure.

If it was a stock 88 350 it should have had the borg warner rear, but I would think he would remember paying to have 3.73s put in a 9 bolt being as the parts are harder to find and much more expensive. I would find out exactly what it was before you buy it.

I have owned seven 3rd gen cars, both Firebird and Camaro. Of the Firebirds, all except one had the 9 bolt and it was an 84. All of the camaros had 10 bolt rears, all were IROC's all were TPI. Of the Firebirds three of then had the LG4 carb motor and one TPI.

Bottom line, I have yet to see a 9 bolt Camaro. Most Firebirds since 85 came with the 9 bolt rears. ( just my experiance)

I think that it is more common to get it in the firebirds, but I have seen camaros with it and my 89 350 tpi IROC has the 9 bolt.

It depends on the package that was bought in order to get the 9-bolt. I think in 90 or something the G92 option had to be specified but previously if you got a 350, you got a 9-bolt as part of the deal. (Whether it was posi or not was another matter) The G92 option was always available but for a price, just like 16" wheels could be asked for instead of the standard 15" if you really wanted them kind of deal. There were a few packages that needed certain options to be selected in order for them to be available, the 1le comes to mind for that example.

the guy with the gears said it was the brazillian rear, that must be the 9 bolt borg warner correct ? so those gears wont work in a 10 bolt. damn it was a good deal too.

The 9 bolt is referred to as the austrailian rear, but I would imagine that is what he meant.
