Here's another view of it

I know that it is a 9 bolt borg warner housing out of a camaro or Transam 82-92 because it has the tourque arm still attached. The panhard bar is still on it and all of the other mounting points are correct.

What I don't know is what type of differential it is help

Look on the gears and see if you see any numbers.. (11:41) or something like that. It will tell you exactly what gears or install. Also look on the passanger side tube about mid-way and there should be some ID Numbers... (6FB 0313). You will have to get a wire brush and remove the rust on the axle to get to the numbers and it will help you get the information you want.

If it was a spool I thought it would only have bolts to hold the ring gear on. What is the second set of bolts for????
Any chance that this thing is a Detroit Locker???

It's a series 3, 9 bolt unit (3.27 or 3.45). If you look inside the little cut outs on the housing, the will see the spider gears. Look for the ratio on the side of the ring gear.

Hey Miles

Thanks for the info:hail:

So what is a series 3 9 bolt???

Is it a possi?

Is it worth trying to revive it? (one axle missing and it won't turn at all right now. The gears look to be in great shape but somehow I think the pinion shaft has siezed against the front of the housing.)

Thanks Ric

A series 3 9 bolt will accept ratios to 4.10 and is most likely a posi unit. Parts are more expensive then a 10 bolt, but the 9 bolt is much stronger! More info is available at www.9bolt.com
