Info for first time auto to 5spd swaps

OMG.....3 hours upside down with my head under the dash.....my neck is killing me.....this swap is not hard just very time consuming and you need to keep your cool....lol...i had to tell that to my self lots of times today...in order to get the clutch/brake assebly out you need to remove two "reinforcing" bars to gain access to 2 of the 4 nuts that hold the pedals to the firewall....no big deal just get your self WAY under that dash and have someone ready to hang you tools....you need to also drop the steering column some...no biggy...two 13mm nuts....then use a BFE (Big Freakin extention) and put a 15mm deep on the end of that and it is easy to gain access to those two of the 4 nuts i was talkn about....this may not make much sense now but just get under there and you will see what i mean. Then to take out the auto pedals it took like 1/2 hour b/c i know what to do.....now i am going on to the installation of the clutch pedal in the auto car.....i will be back.

I wouldn't consider myself a novice but i don't think i am a master yet either.....i have done 2 engine swaps...rear swaps....and all the preventive maintanice to my car...along with lots of small engines and dirtbikes....but it is not hard if you just read over the teah artical but it is a pain in the *** b/c of how tight is is under there you need to just keep telling you self to just do it and not freak out b/c the more you get done now the less you will do later. it sure did make is easier having the stick car right next to the auto car tho...lol....and a person out there to hand you tools as you need them.

Just bench press it up. I've taken a T-5 out and put it back in 3 times now, benching it back up is the easiest way.

If you ever upgrade to a T56 the weight and height is a bit much for 1 person. I broke down and bought a scissor jack specifically for transmissions from Harbor Freight for $50 or so...and it was worth it.

heh, if you ever upgrade to a T-56 do what I do, get a big friend to come over and bench it.

If all else fails you can get jack adapters to convert your floorjack to a tranny jack.

Putting those pedals in is a real !@#$ing nightmare. It took me a bit more than 12 hours to do it the first time. Although, when the slave cylider seal blew I had to do it again and it only took 3 hours.

Practice makes perfect

12 hours!!
What do you mean, a total of 12 hours or 12 hours straight.

I was just about to start the same thing. I don't think that I can do anything for 12 hours straight, except maybe sleep.

I even have the donar car right next to my car. Any other tips?

does anybody happen to know if i can use the starter that is on my car with the 700r4 right now, when i swap to my t-5, or will i have to get a different one?, i have heard differing opinions,

and incase you are wondering the current starter is a stock replacement, about 3 months old so i really don't wanna buy a new one again
