Shifter Cable Clip by Trans link ?

Just installed new shifter cable and the bracket that holds the cable in place / attaches onto tranny (keep cable from moving.) Well the new cable does not "clip" onto the bracket. Before I rig it to stay in place, is there a clip that may go on other side of the bracket ? It look like their needs to be something to keep this cable from sliping out of the bracket. Any help or diagrams of shifter cable attaching to 700R4 appreciated.
Thanks

i just did the exact same thing today!

i was backing my car up my driveway when it jumped into park for me and wouldn't move at all ... turns out the shifter cable snapped clean in half the PO rebuilt the trans 20K miles ago but he apparently didn't change out the shifter cable ... jackass

bought new one at autozone for $30 and installed ... damn was that fun ... and dirty too! i met every piece of road grime that ever clung to my car

as far as getting the clip in - if ur talking about the bracket that's mounted to the trans. fluid pan on the bottom of car with two bolts then here's how it goes bc it wouldn't snap right in for me either.
(btw, and maybe this is just mine, but the bolts holding the bracket on were 5/16 and metric 12 ... wtf ???)

unbolt the cable bracket from the pan and use a screwdriver to depress the side of the new cable's housing with a triangle & half-oval while wiggling it all into the bracket. make sure that you are putting it in so that you have threaded the lower attachment bolt through the hole in the mounting bracket first and are pushing it in so that force is applied towards the front of the car. after you've bolted it back on to the lower attachment bolt and replaced the hairpin-like clip at the shifter base, LEAVE THE CAR ON THE JACK. have someone get into the car and attempt to shift through all the gears without missing one, there is a significant amount of adjustment possible. when we first bolted mine in and tested it on the jack i could not get the car into first gear, the cable simply wouldn't move that far bc it was bolted in the wrong spot.

good luck to you, and make sure the car's exhaust is nice and cold before you squirm under there - i'm a skinny 18 year old who almost melted off his nose despite a 2 hour grace period of engine cooling on a jack
