There's a spring on my TV cable, can't figure out why??
Hello.
I looked for some info on this but came up with nothing so I'll ask instead.
When I bought my car it came with supposedly a rebuilt trans w. firmer shifts etc. The trans works fine kinda, shifts firm at 5500 rpm and under. No complaints really.
But, on the TV cable, where it attaches to the tb there is a little spring inbetween the cable stop and the fastener that goes on the throtthle. The spring is about 15 mm long and 8 mm dia. and what it does is to give the tv cable a 15 mm "head start" so to speak. At WOT the tv is fully extended w. the spring compressed.
I took the spring off to see if the tv was sticking but it has full travel without the spring in place. What I was wondering was if this is something the "built" trans should have or is it a shade tree way if firming up the shifts??
Btw, the trans looks brand new (no muck, dirt etc. on it) so I am sure it was rebuilt at some point.
The reason I am looking at this is because when I drive the trans will stay in 1 or 2 or 3 up until about 1900-2000 rpm even under the lightest of loads. Can this be because of the spring or do I need to get a governor recalibration kit to lower my shift points? What I want is to have early shifts and shift manually at higher rpm when on the throttle.
Thanx and sorry for the rambling post.
Bjorn.

Sounds like they put this spring on it for a quick cheap fix. Needs to have governor calibrated and tv cable adjusted correctly to properly fix your complaints.
Here is the description for the picture.
700R4 / 200-4R Throttle Valve Cable Corrector Spring. This spring will allow you to turn the pressure up and still be able to open the throttle wide open. The spring is on the far right side in picture. Cost $5.00

This spring and holder are a way to get full throttle without pulling the TV cable out of its housing, and have later part throttle shifts. In some cases it is needed and it works.
