Hey all

Wow this is strange!!
Ok, this has been on my mind for a while now.
When I go into gear, lets say (drive) my car feels like it lifts a bit (this normal).. and when I go to reverse (it goes down), ok.. next strange thing! I get a weird noise under the car, like when I go over a bump it sounds like a toolbox is crashing around or something like really strange!! My mechanic said my Transmission mounts were messed up and getting held by 2 screws, well I got the car back and the noise is still there (cars going back to the shop).. another thing I noticed.... When I hit the gas, theres a very loud CLUNK in the car it self, sounds weirddddd!
Its like (gas.. CLUNK).. only if I push to hard on the pedal.. like if I go into over drive .. forsure it makes the clunk. But when Im just like moving from a stop light, and u know I give it some normal gas sometimes it will clunk on me also.

No idea whats wrong here!!

 

trans ,mount is broke, buy an ES poly mount they're bullet proof

 

I agree. Your rubber trans mount has been severed, and that CLUNK is the sound of the tailstock slamming into the driveshaft tunnel. I've been through about 4 of them. It is much scarrier on a T-5 car because the actual shifter starts going up and down. The standard replacement is a $40 part, but I recommend and upgrade.

 

yeah well I just had them replaced!!!
and it still makes the noise thou!

 

it broke again, and it is it and not them, you sure you had a trans mount replaced if there was more than one?

 

The mechanic said something about 2 screws were only holding the tranny so they put more or whatever.
Whats the deal with this noise?

 

I had that same type of clunk on my 88 formula 350 and i changed the tranny mount, its just one piece. I would make sure u have all the correct mounting harware holding the tranny in place, also the clunk could come from the torque arm mount which is close to the tranny itself.

 

when you replace your tranny mount you better make sure your motor mounts aren't messed up other wise it is pointless, cause you will be running in circles. if motor mounts are bad it puts alot of stress on that tranny mount. so make sure that they are ok. and if they are bad replace all of them all at once. that would be 2 motor mounts and 1 tranny mount

When you have TWO tranny mounts, that's how you know it's time to change it I have ripped mine in half FOUR times.

Your mechanic was more than likely talking about the CROSS MEMBER. There were prolly only 2 bolts left in it. Either that or he is screwing you

 

had the same trouble with my car as well

question do you get a heap of wheel hop as well ??? if so my guess would be the lower control arm bushes are stuffed as well .replace them and the clunk will go

 

well its going to be a while since im going to see him
since I ow him money..
he can wait..
in the meantime
my car only gets liek 100km for a full tank
(brutal eh)
